From the August 9, 2015 St. Pius V Catholic Church Bulletin:
STREAM-Driven Middle School
Middle school students at St. Pius V Catholic School are in for some exciting changes this year. The most significant is the launch of our STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Math) program.
While many people are familiar with the STEM concept, the teachers and administrators at St. Pius V Catholic School are aware of the incredible educational and emotional impact that the arts has on students. They are committed to integrating the arts throughout the educational program, as well as developing a deeper connection with Religion throughout the curriculum.
Far from being a stand-alone program, offered only in afterschool programs, the SPV STREAM program is integrated within the core curricular subjects, including English/Language Arts.
Our middle school teachers have been meeting throughout the summer to design a program that will be exciting, inspiring, and manageable for students. The teachers and administration worked hard last year to lay the groundwork for a STREAM program for the middle school. One of these changes included designing a modified block schedule. Four times a week, students will have extended periods for science, math, English, and social studies, allowing them to explore concepts at a more in-depth level, especially with more project-based and team-centered learning activities.
The schedule will also provide an "elective wheel," where students may select from among several elective options, including technology, photography, and instrumental music. FInally, all middle school students will have an "advisory" period, which will allow them an opportunity to complete work alone or in groups, ask for additional assistance from teachers, and work on school-related projects without impacting their academic class time.

60th Anniversary Celebration News
We are planning on celebrating our 60th Anniversary as part of our PPTO Family Night on May 29. We are offering all a chance to purchase a commemorative tile (or two or three) which can be inscribed in one of three ways, and with four color choices for the cross. Each tile will cost $60. If you would like to express your interest in purchasing a tile, please download and complete this form.
Updating and Accessing Important Information
Sycamore access information has been moved to the Parents page of this website. Go to Parents>Important Information and click the appropriate Sycamore link. If you do not have, or cannot find, your Sycamore Username and/or password, send an email here to request either or both.
If you need to make a change to the names authorized to pick up your student(s), you will not be able to do so through the Registration Portal anymore. You must send an email here from the email we have on file for you, listing the names, contact numbers and relationship. We will then notify the homeroom teacher and Extended Daycare of the change.
The 2014-2015 Parent/Student Handbook is also available on the "Parents" link on this website. The Daycare Handbook and information on the Hot Lunch program are also available on the "Parents" page.
At this morning's assembly, our parish administrator, Fr. Paw Lwin, spoke to our students and parents, and then blessed the students' backpacks to inaugurate the new school year. (Accompanying Fr. Paw is our Student Body President, Teddy J.)
